For well over a century, beginning
when Peekskill’s first settlers were befriended by the Kitchawank
Indians, the Hudson River served as Peekskill’s gateway to the
world. Not only did the Hudson River’s Geography at Peekskill Bay
offer spectacular scenery, but it also afforded the construction of Wharves
and Docks for sloops and schooners that fostered trade and led to a
vibrant manufacturing industry.
